Brigid, Hanna, and I started the day with Brigid’s dreads session. It took around four hours, and her hair created beautiful new dreads!!
Brigid’s new dreads! The glass bead they put in her hair matches her shirt perfectly!Glass dreadlock bead handblown by Becca Greene BITD. An amazing example of time travel!Sweet! Brigid and Hanna <3
Heather came later that afternoon, and we started her dreadlocks! Very different hair and locks than earlier in the day. Heather is an amazing yoga instructor in the area. I’m excited to watch her hair as the locks grow and mature!!
I love when dogs come to the salon! And I love when amazing people come to the salon!! So I really had fun when Maeve brought in Freya, and I got to pratice some braids in her hair. I’m really making progress with my braids endeavour!
First thing’s first. Freya is happy with her rawhide!Swirly ponytail braidTraveling Dutch braidI love pictures of lots of hair in the shampoo bowl! This is a huge bowl!Freya and MaevePuppy Love!
The salon has been very busy! Hash Bash just happened, and we’ve been working out some new additions for Grateful Dreads in between doing some very fun and beautiful hair!!
A beautiful, smooth straight blonde hair cutI love when people smile after I cut their hair! The beautiful Amarylis is blooming!! I want to do someone’s hair like this!Lane came for a quick dreads session. She looks amazing with her blonde and pink dreads!Bright purple bangs with a naturally wavy haircut!Jane and I have the same hair! I think I’ve invented a new way to cut our hair becuase we’re both loving her new cut, and it was very easy to do!!
Alex came to Grateful Dreads about 5 weeks ago for new dreads. After around a month, new dreads will start to look fuzzy and like they are falling out. This is because the new dread work is tightening towards the center of each dreadlock. The tightening causes any shorter hairs to fall out at the roots and the ends to look longer. These pics are of Alex at his first tightening session about 5 weeks after we put in his dreads.
Alex’s new dreads look loose. The front section is freshly tightened!
He came in for a tightening session, and I workied in all the loose hairs, tightened his roots and ends, and put on some tightening gel by Knotty Boy. Before tightening, I washed Alex’s hair with a clarifying tea tree shampoo and separated any dreads that were stuck together.
Freshly tightened locks after 5 weeks! Alex looks great in dreads!
I’ve worked on so many different hair types recently that I just can’t put them into a category except for happy clients who leave the salon with healthy hair that they love! I’ll let the pics tell the story:
Kelly’s pink hair!I’ve been into braids. This is an early attempt at a dutch flower braid.Michelle came in for a haircut, and we added some blonde around her face. Her hair is blown out smooth here but has a very beautiful wavy natural texture!Anna’s got beautiful wavy hair too! She likes to straighten it, but I cut her hair wavy, so it will look amazing with it’s natural texture as well.Lots of angles and assymetry!Cora’s freshly rolled locks!Laura came for a cut with her friend from Cincinnati. It’s official. Grateful Dreads is a destination spot! We talked a lot about hair products and regimens for curly and wavy hair. Happiness!Sidney stopped by for a quick visit. Look at those beautiful dreads! She’s had them slightly over 18 months. Thanks for coming by! I love when you visit!Adam is a hip hop musician. He came for a cut. Still long but clean it up!I love Adam’s haircut. He’s cutting up samples of his live music on his iPad!
This is a very special set of pictures. Allison brought in her daughter to talk about her hair, and Camellia just happened to be in the salon. We got to work right away while talking about products and methods to care for Connie’s very curly, delicate hair!
Connie and CamelliaCamellia helped with Connies hair strengthening treatment. So cute!!!
Connie went home to let the conditioning really soak into her hair. Her mom rinsed it out and combed through. Then they came back the next day with good results!
Connie’s hair after some conditioning and a cute curly cut!Bouncey!
Diana Mellon, Mike Frieseman, and I got together for a small shoot inside Grateful Dreads. I put Diana’s hair in hot rollers and did her make up to be very soft and warm. Mike got some great shots!
These are some very beautiful pictures, and they really create an ambience. Romantic and clean. Very special thank you to both Mike and Diana!!!!!!
We did a photoshoot last night at Grateful Dreads. Mike Frieseman took the photos, and Diana Mellon did some modeling. We had a lot of fun and created some really amazing shots.
These are some pics I snapped with my phone:

Winter is at it’s peak! These are some pics of the people who are getting great hair and staying warm in the salon during this cold weather.
David’s locks are gorgeous! These are interlocked, started by his mom, and for the past year maintained by me. I love how his hair looks twisted up like this. I pulled it up to fade his sides. This is how people look after an experience at Grateful Dreads!Ahn’s trim up. Her hair was already very texturized, so I cut it to smooth her ends and give her lots of volume on top!Alex getting ready for his dreadlocksNew dreads! Oh yeahhhh!!Couples haircuts! What a concept! We had a great time hanging out and doing haircuts and color. Laura and this salon are such a great match! Symbiosis at it’s finest!
There were a couple pics I didn’t snap of some great work I’d love to share! I gave Teymour the best looking cut in over 10 years. I suppose we say that a lot!!
I gave Alloy Ash the most beautiful icey purple platinum dreads for her trip to Texas. Congrats Alloy Ash and best to you while you’re down south!!!
This is a pic of Kristen’s dreads one week in. She’s really doing a great job with the maintenance!
I make custom fusion extensions at Grateful Dreads. For Alana’s hair I colored them and made the extensions piece by piece to suit her hair type and the style she wants.
Custom ombré colorThis is what the fusion extensions look like dry and in pieces.Alana came into Grateful Dreads, and I removed her old extensions. Her hair is very fine and has been colored many times which makes it brittle.
I colored Alana’s hair with some conditioning color and did some extra deep conditioning at the bowl. Then I added her new extensions piece by piece!
Finished look from the back!Alana’s full, long, gorgeous hair!! Completely custom just for her!!
Alana and I had a great appointment!
I had a lot of fun preparing for this, and Alana loves her hair!! I am so happy with the results. Thank you Alana for coming to the salon!
I offer threading at Vis A Vis every Wednesday. I’ve become their patron as well. This is a very nice skin care and massage salon. The people there are so fun and friendly, and the decor is smart and cute!
The reception areaVis a Vis sells a lot of natural high-quality skin care products including make up and application tools. There is also a Vis a Vis skin care line! One of the massage rooms. Notice the bars on the ceiling. Mellissa uses them for Ashiatsu massage.
There are other equally beautiful and comfortable rooms for massage and full body waxing, but they’re usually full, so it’s difficult getting a picture!
This is the Brow Bar where I do the threading. They use this room for facial waxing and make up application.I like the art in the Brow Bar!These cute little figurines are for sale!
Sitting RoomGuests get to drink premium loose teas from Tea Haus which is located about a block away from Grateful Dreads!
These are some of my favorite pieces of art hanging in the salon.
Something I’ve noticed about the people here is they study what they do constantly. They also study their client’s files, so they know the details of each job. Vis a Vis is really into details and personalized skin care.Yummy treats at the check out area. These girls don’t mess around!Brady
Vis a Vis is top notch! If you’re looking for a place for massage, make up, facials, waxing, or threading I very strongly recommend. My experience there has been completely positive every time!
Kindlefest is an annual event for Kerrytown. We all set up booths in the Farmers’ Market area, and people came from all over to celebrte the start of the holiday season. There were lots of vendors with hand made goods and yummy food and drnks fotr everyone. The fire pit and roasted chestnuts smelled really nice, and there were horns playing Christmas music. There were so many shoppers!!
Greg, Camellia, and I were at the booth talking to people about Grateful Dreads.

The Farmers’ Market is full of wreaths and trees and shoppers! It’s so special to see all the families and to be there with my own family especially during this time!
Fan Cam and Gabi met at Grateful Dreads for quick Kerrytown photoshoot! Fan Cam is an extremely motivated and talented model. Gabi is a talented photographer as well as a gorgeous model! I knew they would really get along, so I was so happy to host this shoot. I love getting artists together for collaborations! We all had fun and got some great photos!!
I had already cut their hair, so I left things pretty natural. I styled Cam’s a little bit, and Gabi did some very light make up.
Cam and Gabi inside Grateful Dreads. The tallest people on the littlest bench!I liked that I-beam in the back on the windows.
A hip urban feel. I took these photos inside the Kerrytown building. Such a photogenic place!

Lane came in with half her hair dreaded.I dreaded her other half! I love purple dreads!!Lane and Bob Marley. Full heads of dreads!
Bron and I twisted up her hair into a cute side-part style. I’ll do a later post of her hair taken out of the twists.
