I visited Start Gallery last weekend for haircuts and a showing of their latest exhibit Evereman. Evereman is originally from Atlanta. He is now in Detroit and creates new art that he and his crew hide somewhere in the city every Friday. Whoever finds the art gets to keep it! His exhibit at Start Gallery is his first major display in an art gallery. The colors and shapes are crisp and cool! Excellent use of minimal media!!
The sun was setting as I took the photos. I really love how the sun shines into the gallery!
Thank you Jason and Rachel! I love coming to see you guys!
I’ve worked on so many different hair types recently that I just can’t put them into a category except for happy clients who leave the salon with healthy hair that they love! I’ll let the pics tell the story:
This is a very special set of pictures. Allison brought in her daughter to talk about her hair, and Camellia just happened to be in the salon. We got to work right away while talking about products and methods to care for Connie’s very curly, delicate hair!
Connie went home to let the conditioning really soak into her hair. Her mom rinsed it out and combed through. Then they came back the next day with good results!
Diana Mellon, Mike Frieseman, and I got together for a small shoot inside Grateful Dreads. I put Diana’s hair in hot rollers and did her make up to be very soft and warm. Mike got some great shots!
These are some very beautiful pictures, and they really create an ambience. Romantic and clean. Very special thank you to both Mike and Diana!!!!!!
I’ve been very busy with dreads and locks, and I’ve seen a lot of new haircut clients! The common thread of all clients of Grateful Dreads is they leave happy and loving their hair.
I recently worked on some curly hair, and the cut was so beautiful I just couldn’t believe my eyes! She came in believing her hair wasn’t able to be worn curly, and that it had to be straightened to look nice. She had been through a couple hair scares, and was just getting out of the mullet danger zone.
These past two weeks, I’ve worked on at least three women with beautiful curls who held the same belief, that their hair must be straightened to look nice. I took my time with their hair, nourished it, and I was very careful while cutting. These women left the salon with their hair natural and loving it! The fact of straightened, curly hair is that it has to recover from the effects of being flattened over time. The full potential of each curl will come out over time, but in the beginning of going curly from straightened, the curls will be somewhat relaxed. My hope is that these women continue to love their curly cuts and begin enjoying all the free time they have from not having to overstyle their hair to feel beautiful.
I have no pictures of these curly cuts. Maybe next time! For now, these are the cool pics I’ve taken recently:
It’s winter in Michigan, and I’ve been working so diligently on the technical side of things. These are some pics of my inspirations to pick things up!
