Evereman at Start Gallery

I visited Start Gallery last weekend for haircuts and a showing of their latest exhibit Evereman.  Evereman is originally from Atlanta.  He is now in Detroit and creates new art that he and his crew hide somewhere in the city every Friday.  Whoever finds the art gets to keep it!  His exhibit at Start Gallery is his first major display in an art gallery.  The colors and shapes are crisp and cool!  Excellent use of minimal media!!

The sun was setting as I took the photos.  I really love how the sun shines into the gallery!

Love Your Hair!

I’ve worked on so many different hair types recently that I just can’t put them into a category except for happy clients who leave the salon with healthy hair that they love!  I’ll let the pics tell the story:

Michelle came in for a haircut, and we added some blonde around her face. Her hair is blown out smooth here but has a very beautiful wavy natural texture!

Anna's got beautiful wavy hair too! She likes to straighten it, but I cut her hair wavy, so it will look amazing with it's natural texture as well.

This is a very special set of pictures.  Allison brought in her daughter to talk about her hair, and Camellia just happened to be in the salon.  We got to work right away while talking about products and methods to care for Connie’s very curly, delicate hair!

Connie went home to let the conditioning really soak into her hair.  Her mom rinsed it out and combed through.  Then they came back the next day with good results!

Diana

Diana Mellon, Mike Frieseman, and I got together for a small shoot inside Grateful Dreads.  I put Diana’s hair in hot rollers and did her make up to be very soft and warm.  Mike got some great shots!

Lots of Dreads and Haircuts!

I’ve been very busy with dreads and locks, and I’ve seen a lot of new haircut clients!  The common thread of all clients of Grateful Dreads is they leave happy and loving their hair.

I recently worked on some curly hair, and the cut was so beautiful I just couldn’t believe my eyes!  She came in believing her hair wasn’t able to be worn curly, and that it had to be straightened to look nice.  She had been through a couple hair scares, and was just getting out of the mullet danger zone.

These past two weeks, I’ve worked on at least three women with beautiful curls who held the same belief, that their hair must be straightened to look nice.  I took my time with their hair, nourished it, and I was very careful while cutting.  These women left the salon with their hair natural and loving it!  The fact of straightened, curly hair is that it has to recover from the effects of being flattened over time.  The full potential of each curl will come out over time, but in the beginning of going curly from straightened, the curls will be somewhat relaxed.  My hope is that these women continue to love their curly cuts and begin enjoying all the free time they have from not having to overstyle their hair to feel beautiful.

I have no pictures of these curly cuts.  Maybe next time!  For now, these are the cool pics I’ve taken recently:

I love Camille! Her dreads are three years old, and she needed a little maintenance. Those are two wool dreads that she made and put in herself.

Beautiful blonde curls. This is an example of freshly naturally curly hair. Notice how the curls are a little relaxed from being flat ironed.
IMG_2777
BEFORE. Very blunt and heavy cut with disconnected and overtexturized layers.

AFTER. A softer look for very straight hair.

I enjoyed meeting Ia, and she left very happy with her cut! Looking forward to catching up next time!!

Cool haircut, not too short, and left full. Look at this amazing coat from Spain! Her purse is by the same designer.
IMG_2784
This was her first haircut in the US! She is from Thailand, and all of her clothes from there were totally cool!

Jake and the band showed up in a huge van! He came for regular maintenance. His dreads are around 8 months old and are really looking good!

Have a happy day!

Influences

It’s winter in Michigan, and I’ve been working so diligently on the technical side of things. These are some pics of my inspirations to pick things up!
