Maeve is royalty of models. I love working with her and her hair! She’s so gorgeous, highly educated, and speaks from her amazing experiences. So cool! We met early for the shoot and got ready so fast that we went out for breakfast while we waited for Daighna Rayner, the photographer, to arrive. The day before, Maeve came to Grateful Dreads, and I deep conditioned her hair and braided it to dry. When I took out her braid for the shoot, her hair looked beautiful just how it was! I did a little detail work to create some smoothness. Maeve did all of her make up in all of the photos.
This is a very special shoot. I put a lot of myself and my ideas into this and was able to meet with both of my favorite designers, Kelly Lynne and Fotoula Lambros, to pull from their new collections. Given the concept and the model, we were all excited!
The dress in the last picture is the Monroe dress in black by Fotoula Lambros for Fotoula Lambros Design. The dresses in the above pictures are both by Kelly Sager for Kelly Lynne. The machine in the top picture is a Linotype and is how newspapers used to be printed. Maeve looks like she is from that era in Kelly Lynne’s beautiful lacy dress! I really love the red puffy sleaves on the middle dress. So haute couture!
Maeve has amazing energy. Thank you to all of you involved in this shoot!
The photos from Grateful Dreads’ first photoshoot are here! Ashley is so gorgeous! I really love her style. We met up early that morning, so I could make her hair platinum and touch up her mohawk before the shoot (you can view the process in the next post). Then I made her hair huge and added some bright purple and deep blue to the back! Ashley did her own make up then we drove out to a beautiful spot on the river.
I love Ashley’s confidence! And I really love the one-lens sunglasses! What a special treat to work with these two amazing artists. Thank you I love you guys!!
Amy Hubbarth took some cool pictures while I worked on Ashley’s hair. They drove from Detroit for Grateful Dreads’ first photo session!
Finished Look! This is what platinum looks like!!
We liked Ashley’s roots, so I used foils to apply the bleach. After a double process bleach, we then applied a toner by Goldwell. I dried her hair and made it big and billowy and then touched up her sides with Oster 76 clippers, faded her nape, and lined her up!
Special thanks to Denise the barber for teaching me all about clippers. Denise owns and operates Goodfellows Barbershop in Royal Oak.
Tasha shines a bright light. She just graduated from U of M and makes jewelry. She’s got dreads, some old and some new, and she was Camellia’s nanny. Now she’s on her way to Miami!
